inside man

in short, it’s about a bank robbery. a very well executed robbery that has no flaws and no loopholes. of course then at the back of your mind you start wondering if there’s anyone who was insane (or sane) enough to pull this off in real life.

i’m a sucker for mysteries and thrillers and whodunnits. this is no exception. yes, i know it’s a really really old show but i haven’t had time to catch a lot of stuff on the big screen as of late.

the plot got me twisted real good, up to the point where i didn’t realise my hand was numb thanks to poor blood circulation. you have to admit that clive owen (the man bad guy or good guy however you choose to see it) thought up the plan real good. criminals switching roles with civilians so that if they were to try and pin one of the hostages down as a possible suspect, someone else would come along and make a testament that discredits that plausibility.

denzel washington was simply badass. he’s such a character and brings out the role of straight cop with a no shit attitude. initially we thought the detective was played by some random actor who was mister washington’s twin, turns out it was the man himself. in anycase, his laugh is trademark - open wide and hearty/boisterous or simply loud. there wasn’t enough screen time for jodie foster but you could tell she was a downright high-class bitch. she earned the title to get to where she was.

the cinematography was pretty decent. ever watch some shows where the ambience was just a lil’ too highly contrasted? inside man had a good mix of both, didn’t leave me with a splitting headache. the scenes during the interrogation were aptly tinted with a dash of blue and green to give off that dreary prison-ish effect.

the pace of the movie was pretty decent. seeing as how we didn’t realise that the show was 2 hours long. it dug into your cranium and set your brain hungering for more. as a whole, despite the fact that it was long, it wasn’t draggy like how some shows are. it got you wondering just what’s the next step, the next thing that’s going to happen. there were bits of it that seemed somewhat predictable (either that or i’ve been playing a lil’ too much phoenix wright) but the boyfriend found it wholesomely twistingly good.

Great movie -- loved Clive Owen. Got to be one of my fav actors at the moment.
